For its inaugural instalment, Transit Arts presents a series of pop-up screenings from the back of a van, with moving image works by Caroline Campbell, Common Culture, Dennis & Debbie Club, Jean-Baptiste Maitre and Will Kendrick which negotiate the adventure of consumption today, in the era of the experience economy.
Imitating and upending the language and postures of selling, The Economy Experience celebrates a mythology of honest commerce and its unsung heroes. This instalment is an elegy for late capitalism and its obsession with surface: viewer becomes consumer; art becomes product; artist becomes salesman.
The project is accompanied by a new publication featuring fiction and essay writing, photography and digital images, with contributions from Marcus Jack, Ewan Morrison, Graham Ramsay, Common Culture, Bram E. Gieben, Lucy Sykes, Dennis & Debbie Club, and Will Kendrick.
Presented as part of The Glasgow School of Art 2015 Graduate Degree Show in partnership with The Pipe Factory and CCA Glasgow.
