Dioramas is a screening programme which features the re-enactment of mythologised landscapes by modernist campaigns. Moving image works by Karen Russo and Patrick Hough move through simulated worlds: industrial translations of Ancient Egypt, embedded with an uncanny atemporality, at once premodern and futuristic. Out of time and out of place, the programme presents two new ruins wherein the eerie is formed by a distorted reconstitution of the past in the present.

Dioramas is presented as part of the launch of Mycelia, a new print magazine for weird, experimental and literary fiction and visual art published by Hedera Felix. Issue 1 features short fiction, poetry, photography, prints and illustration from award-winning novelists, emerging writers still in high school, radical academics and ecocritical artists, on themes ranging from queer romance, speculative philosophy, erotic plant entanglements, semiotic subversion, the death of a parent, theological contemplations and more.

The publication launch will also include readings from authors Ryan Vance, Tara P. Woolnough, E. Saxey, John Dummett and Mark Bolsover. William Joys will perform a special cabaret poetry theatre in-between the acts and Ribeka will be playing a selection of weird and eerie records.

Glasgow-based bookshop and art space Good Press will host a stall of artists’ publications on the weird and eerie theme.
